Last year I made Circle Time mats for the kids in our Preshool Co-Op group. They were very useful for keeping the students sitting in a specific place when it was teaching time. This year O and I are participating in Co-Op with the same kids, so they can reuse their mats! Yay!
This year another group of Moms are doing Co-Op for their 3-year-olds and they asked me to make mats for their kids.
Sadly, their names don’t spell something like our group did.
But they’re still cute, I think. Even the boy mats! Sewing for boys is a challenge for me. Even when I pick out male colors they often end up looking too girlie.

Boy mats. Man, is it hard for me to pick boy fabric! I can do nautical all day, but outside of that I am pretty helpless.
These guys finish off at about 12.5″ square and are basically mini quilts with letters appliquéd to them. The cost to make one is $20. I gave these Moms a discount since I wasn’t able to give them a price before they hired me.
And, since these families are all Believers, their kids got a special message quilted into their mats. I find free motion quilting to be difficult, except when writing words. Then it was fun.
It feels really good to finish sewing something. Next up: more boy bibs and a purse for ME!

Cool idea, I bet you could make the entire Alphabet (maybe slightly smaller mats) and use it as a learning tool. For instance do an “A” on an apple fabric.

I was thinking that those would be cool to hang on a child’s wall by making each letter to spell out their name. Hmm….grandchildren idea.
(My girls are going to kill me when they see this post.) -
Very nice, are you taking orders? Looks like I won’t be sewing anytime soon and you do beautiful work! Let me know.
